Dr. Cone has practiced as a hyperbaric medicine specialist at the NBS clinical headquarters facility since 1988. He became its medical director in 2000. Dr. Cone is Board Certified in both Family and Preventive Medicine and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine. He was elected a Fellow in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society in 2013.

For more than two decades Dr. Cone has been a key faculty member for both 'Primary Training in Hyperbaric Medicine' and the NBS advanced hyperbaric conference series. In these capacities he has been responsible for introductory training and continuing education of over 8,000 health care professionals. He is a nationally recognized subject matter expert on the delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in general and its risk-benefit calculations in particular. This background and his ongoing commitment to currency with evolving basic and clinical science serves him well in his capacity as the lead clinical respondent for 'Ask the Experts: a highly acclaimed clinical resource.

Dr. Cone is Assistant Dean for Information Technology at the University Of South Carolina School Of Medicine. He is a long-standing member of the UHMS Hyperbaric Safety Committee and the Diving Medical Officer for the South Carolina Law Enforcement public safety dive teams.
