Thank you for your interest in "Primary Training in Hyperbaric Medicine."
Attendance is limited to 36 attendees. Each course is generally filled to capacity within six weeks of the starting date. Therefore, if you plan to attend, we encourage you to register early to secure the dates of your choice.
A room block has been arranged at the Marriott Hotel in Columbia. A special rate of $115.00 is offered to registered attendees, for single or double occupancy. The Marriott Hotel will provide airport transportation and daily transportation to and from the hospital for the days of the training course at no additional cost. Breakfast at the Center City Grill is complimentary each morning, wireless internet and self-parking is also provided at no charge. It is your responsibility to make hotel reservations directly by contacting our Marriott Group Coordinator, Ms. Pastache Leaphart, at (803) 744-6906 or via e-mail address at pleaphart@pyramidhotels.com from 8:00AM - 5:00PM EST Monday through Friday. If you wish to make a reservation outside of normal business hours, please leave a voicemail and Ms. Leaphart will return the call with your confirmation number the next business morning. Be sure to identify yourself as being with the Hyperbaric Medicine Group. Please make your reservation as soon as possible and no later than 21 days prior to course date to receive the reduced rate.
Telephone requests will not hold your training course reservation. A completed registration form and advance payment is required. Once we have received your registration and payment, you will be notified of your confirmed training date, and provided with pre-course reading materials. If the training course that you have applied for has been filled, you will be advised and placed on a waiting list in case of an opening. A confirmed place on the next scheduled training course will be provided to you, and will require your written acceptance.
If you are a physician practicing in Canada, MOCOMP credits are available. These credits will total 64 credit hours for the 40 hours of scheduled training that you will attend.
You will receive a Course Completion Certificate only at the completion of the entire 40 hours of training. You MUST be in attendance throughout the entire week. Please arrange your departure for flights leaving no earlier than 5:30 PM on the last day of the course. Attendees who leave prior to the completion of the course are not eligible to receive a course completion certificate.
"This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) and Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. The UHMS is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians and takes responsibility for the content, quality, and scientific integrity of the CME activity."
General Training Objectives
- Introduce emerging basic science initiatives that support the mediumistic basis of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
- Provide an overview of the recent scientific literature that is likely to consolidate and otherwise influence hyperbaric practice patterns.
- Describe the clinical evidence that characterizes the currently approved indications for hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Continuing Education Units:
Physicians:
- 40 credit hours in Category 1 of the Physicians Recognition Award of the American Medical Association
Nurses:
- 40 contact hours — American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Please contact Hope Stack for more information about contact hours. The ANCC neither endorses nor approves any products that my be associated with this continuing education activity.
Hyperbaric Technologists:
- 40 category A hours — National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology
Respiratory Therapists:
- 37.5 credits — Continuing Respiratory Care Education
Locations and Dates
The course is taught on the campus of Palmetto Health Richland, the teaching institution for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, and Level 1 Trauma Center, in Columbia, South Carolina. Here are the scheduled dates:

2008 Registration Fee:
MD; DO; DMD; DDS — $850.00
MD/DO in Training (Resident and Fellows) — $850.00
Nurses and Technicians — $850.00
The fees include a $50.00 non-refundable portion to cover registration processing. The full fee is payable in advance and includes all course materials. Early registration is advised because of limited enrollment for each course.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel pre-paid training, refunds will be made as follows:
- Fax to the attention of Hope Stack at 803.434.4354, the cancellation request. (Phone cancellations are NOT valid for our refund policy.)
- Make a note on your fax the name of the registrant, the name of the institution/organization, how the registration fee was paid, the date of the training course you are registered for, and the current day’s date.
- If cancelled 14 days prior to course you will receive 50% of the registration fee, unless your place can be filled from any waiting list. If filled, we will return 100% of the registration fee, minus $50.00 for processing and a $35.00 chargeback fee. If cancelled within 14 days, no refund will be made unless your place can be filled from any waiting list. If filled, we will return 100% of the registration fee minus $50.00 for processing and a $35.00 chargeback.
- If cancelled 21 days or more prior to course, you will receive full refund, minus a $50.00 processing fee and a $35.00 chargeback fee.
- No shows are not eligible for a refund.
